FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 12

• The Century 21 Home Team holds a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 100 S. Texas in Crowley.  For information call 800-DONATE-4 or 817-297-9000.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 13

• The city of Burleson’s annual father-daughter, mother-son Valentine dance will be held from 6-9.m. Feb. 13 at the Senior Activity Center at 216 S.W. Johnson Ave. in Burleson. Space is limited, and those who wish to attend should purchase their tickets early. Pre-event tickets are $15 per couple. Tickets at the door are $25 per couple. The ticket price includes dinner; dancing, with music provided by a professional disc jockey; and corsages and pictures of the couples.

• The Crowley FFA Livestock Show begins at 9 a.m. at the Crowley ISD Agriculture Center. For information, call Becky DeShazo at 817-297-5810.

• Crowley FFA Backers Pigs & Pearls Dinner and Dance is from 6-11 p.m. in the Crowley High School cafeteria. Besides dinner and dancing, a silent auction and raffle will be held. For donations and tickets, call Bud Fleming at 817-929-9377.

• The Athena Society presents Mardi Gras 2010 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Mountain Valley Country Club. TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 16

• The Crowley Area Chamber of Commerce annual awards banquet begins with a social hour at 6 p.m. followed by the banquet at 7 p.m. at Christ Community Church. • Registration for Burleson’s spring softball leagues ends. Registration is limited to the first nine teams in each league. League play begins the week of March 22. The fee is $300 per team. CONTINUING EVENTS

• The Burleson Toastmaster’s Club meets at 7 a.m. Thursdays at the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce, 1044 S.W. Wilshire Blvd.

• The Johnson County Quilting Guild meets at 7 p.m. in the community room at Joshua High School. Guests are entitled to two free visits. No meeting will be held May and members only in December. For information, call Wanda Bolt at 817-641-6897.

• The Johnson County Area Real Estate Investors Organization meets from 6-9 p.m. the first Thursday of every month in the Wilshire Room of the First National Bank of Burleson at 740 S.W. Wilshire Blvd.

• The Burleson Lions Club meets at noon on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at First United Methodist Church in Burleson.

• McDonald’s Small Fry Club meets at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays at the McDonald’s at 1119 Wilshire Boulevard in Burleson. A quick craft and prizes are offered. There is no charge to attend.

• Take off Pounds Sensibly

TOPS, or Take Off Pounds Sensibly, a nonprofit weight-loss support group, meets Tuesday nights at 6:15 p.m. for weigh-ins and at 7 p.m. for a meeting at the Burleson Senior Center. Men and women of all ages are welcome. For information, call 817-447-6146.

• St. Matthew Cumberland

Presbyterian Church

St. Matthew Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 380 N.W. Tarrant Blvd., offers health and fitness classes for free or low cost. For information, call 817-295-2333.

The schedule for classes is:

• Boot Camp — Monday and Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $2 per class or $20 for a punch card.

• Tae Kwon Do — Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Cost is $25 a month for one week, $50 a month for two weeks, and $75 a month for three weeks.

• Jiu Jitsu — Monday through Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Cost is $25 a month for one week and $50 a month for two weeks.

• Yoga — Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Class is free.

• Open basketball — Tuesday. Free. Call for time.

• Open volleyball — Thursday. Free. Call for time.

• Walking Track — Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. Free.

• First Baptist Church Crowley

The First Baptist Church in Crowley, 400 S. Eagle Drive in Crowley, offers DivorceCare, a weekly seminar and support group for people who are separated or divorced. The group meets at 5 p.m. beginning Feb. 10 at the building. Call 817-297-4347.

• Burleson Community

Center

The Burleson Community Center, 500 Chisenhall Park Lane, is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 12-9 p.m. Sunday.

The center has several ongoing activities for all ages. The activities are:

• Table Tennis Club — Mondays from 7-9 p.m. All ages are welcome for free table tennis.

• Beginner boot camp — Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-7 p.m. Cost is $35 per month. First class is free.

• Tong Il Lo Martial Science — Fridays. Ages 4-6 are from 6-7 p.m., ages 7 and up beginner are from 7-8 p.m., and ages 7 and up advanced are from 8-9 p.m. Cost is $10 per week, with a $30 one time registration fee per year.

• TURBO KICK — Thursdays from 9-10:15 a.m. or 7-8:15 p.m. Classes start over on first Thursdays. Cost is $30 per month. For information, e-mail happilymauied2004turbokick@yahoo.com.

• Burleson Senior Activity Center

The Burleson Senior Activity Center, 216 S.W. Johnson Ave., is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5-9 p.m. Saturdays For information, call Pat Williams at 817-295-6611.

The center has several ongoing activities for seniors. Activities include:

• Blood pressure checks and hearing screenings from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. second Tuesdays and for school employees from 2-4 p.m. second Mondays.

• American Contract Bridge League sanctioned Bridge Club from 12-3:30 p.m. Mondays. Cost is $2 per person per game. For information, call Ann Kennemer at 817-478-3665 or Marvin Stewart at 817-295-1223.

• Lunches. Potluck begins at 11:30 a.m. Mondays. The Out to Lunch Bunch begins at 11:30 a.m. fourth Wednesdays, and the Trinity Mission Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. first Fridays.

• Dances. Line dancing is from 1-2 p.m. Mondays and 10-11 a.m. Tuesdays. Country and western dancing is from 7-9:30 p.m. second Fridays.

• Crafts. Quilting is from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mondays, and Burleson Baby Quilting meets at 10 a.m. Thursdays.

• Daily table games include dominoes, 42, pinochle, cards, bridge, canasta, bingo and hand and foot. Refreshments are served for Bingo Friday nights.

• The exercise class meets at 1 p.m. Thursdays.

Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce

The chamber also offers several networking events. The networking events are:

• Wellness Networking Group — Second Monday of each month from 7:30-9 a.m. at JJ Mocha’s in Burleson.

• Burleson Breakfast Club — Wednesdays from 7:30-9 a.m. at Holiday Inn Express in Burleson.

• Burleson/Crowley Network Connection — Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Spring Creek Barbeque in Burleson.

• Burleson Making it Happen Network Connection II — Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sammy’s in Burleson.

• Burleson Networking Group — Fridays from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at JJ Mocha’s in Burleson.

• The Burleson Business Builders meet from 8-9:30 a.m. Fridays at Fresco’s on Main Street in Burleson.  All industries are welcome.

• Burleson Public Library

• Story Time for Toddlers (ages 2-3) — Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.

• Story Time for Babies (ages birth through age 1) — Fridays at 10:30 a.m.



Ongoing complimentary programs and activities:

• Monthly movies — One Saturday a month at 1 p.m. Ages 8 and up are welcome for movie and refreshments. Check library for dates and movie titles.

• Teen Advisory Board — First Tuesdays at 6 p.m.

• Friends of the Library Board — First Wednesday at 10 a.m.

• The Firm Investment Club — Second Mondays at 6:30 p.m.

• Library Board Meeting — Third Mondays at 7 p.m.

• Computer mini-classes area available at times posted at www.burlesonlibrary.com.



• Crowley Public Library

The Crowley library, located at 409 Oak St., has opportunities for adults and young adults to volunteer. Volunteers perform varied duties suited to their schedule and interests. Anyone wishing to volunteer a few hours each week can call 817-297-6707.

The following events are also scheduled for the library:

• Toddler time with Teresa is at 10 a.m. Wednesdays.

• Story Time with Tina is at 11 a.m. Fridays for preschool students.

• Story Time, Crafts is held at 7 p.m. Thursdays; all ages welcome. Mothers’ participation is required for some crafts for children under 4.

• One-on-one computer classes for adults are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For information, call Cristina or Gwen at 817-297-6707.

• The book club for adults meets at 10:30 a.m. the first Friday of each month in the conference room. Scrap booking is available to the community for $10 on the first Saturday of each month. A Wii tournament is held at 6:30 p.m. Fridays. Call to sign up.

• Chess Club meets second Saturday of each month.

• Tutor.com, an online program for students offering homework help in several subjects to students in grades four through college, is available through www.crowleylibrary.org.

• Friends of the Crowley Library, a nonprofit that provides support to the library staff and volunteers, meets at 7 p.m. the third Monday of the month in the Founders’ Room. The Friends sponsor several events throughout the year that benefit the library. The most popular event is the citywide garage and book sale, held in May and October.

• The library is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday; and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The library is closed Sunday and Monday. For information, call the library at 817-297-6707.



• Crowley Senior Center

The Crowley Senior Center is operated Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with lunch served daily at 11:30 p.m. on a donation basis to individuals who are 60 years of age or older or their spouses. In addition to the meal program, seniors can receive benefits counseling, attend Bible study, trips to health fairs, bingo and card games as well as other activities. • Walkercise/Sittercise offered at 9 a.m. Monday through Friday

• Uno and dominoes offered at 9:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.

• Crafts offered at 12:30 p.m. Mondays.

• 42 offered at 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

• Produce offered at 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

• Chickenfoot offered at 12:30 p.m. Thursdays.

• Scrap quilting offered at 12:30 p.m. Friday.
