Write-in candidates have till Monday to file

At 5 p.m. on March 8, there were five candidates and one contested race on the May 8. That could change by 5 p.m. on March 15, which is the deadline for residents to file as write-in candidates through the city secretary’s office at Burleson City Hall.

 As of the filing deadline on March 8, the candidates were:

• Place 2 – Incumbent Jim Wadlow versus challenger Rick Green;

• Place 4 – Challenger Matt Aiken (incumbent Carter Mahanay did not file for re-election);

• Place 6 – Incumbent Chip Stephens

• Mayor – Incumbent Ken Shetter

Candidates must be at least 18 years old, a citizen of the United States, a qualified voter of the city of Burleson, a resident of the city, and have resided in the city for at least one year immediately before the date of the election, not delinquent in the payment of taxes or other liability due to the City of Burleson, and not otherwise disqualified from serving on the city council by any other provision of law.

Election deadlines:

• March 16 – Last day for a candidate to withdraw name from the ballot — file with the city secretary’s office by 5 p.m.

• March 24 – First day to mail ballots for early voting ballot by mail;

• April 8 – Last day for voters to register to be eligible to vote in the May 8 election. Tarrant County residents should contact the election division at 817-831-8683 or visit www.tarrantcounty.com/elections

• April 23 – Last day to apply for ballot by mail in person

• April 26- 30 – Early voting by personal appearance, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Burleson City Hall

* April 30 – Last day to apply for ballot by mail via mail request

• May 1  – early voting by personal appearance, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Burleson City Hall

• May 3-4 – Early voting by personal appearance, 7 a.m.-7 p.m., Burleson City Hall

• May 8 – Election Day, 7 a.m.-7 p.m., Burleson City Hall.
